MCE AND MP LEAD URGENT RELIEF MISSION TO FLOOD-HIT SAMREBOI COMMUNITIES

In a swift response to the devastating floods that have submerged parts of Samreboi, the Municipal Chief Executive for Wassa Amenfi West, Hon. Priscilla Yorke, today led a high-powered delegation on a working tour of the affected areas to assess the damage and provide immediate relief to displaced residents.

The tour, which took place on 17th and 18th June 2026, was marked by a somber atmosphere as the team navigated through the water-logged streets and witnessed firsthand the destruction caused by the relentless rains.

Accompanying the MCE were the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), Hon Dr. Eric Afful (Member of Parliament for Amenfi West), Hon Assembly Member for the area, officials from the Samartex Group of Companies, and key technical officers of the Assembly. The delegation also included the Municipal Health Director and the Municipal Environmental Officer whose presence was crucial for assessing the potential health risks and sanitation challenges that often accompany such natural disasters.

The team’s first point of call was the low-lying areas of the community (Aboifie, Popolozo, Log Pond Nsuo Akyi), where many homes have been partially submerged, forcing families to seek refuge on higher ground. Residents, visibly shaken, recounted the harrowing experience of the floodwaters rising in the middle of the night.

“We are here to let you know that you are not alone in this difficult time, “Hon. Priscilla Yorke addressed a group of affected residents. “The President and the Government are committed to ensuring your safety and wellbeing. Our immediate priority is to provide relief, while our long-term focus is on finding lasting solutions to the flooding challenges facing this community.”

True to her words, the MCE, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. Eric Afful, who joined the team later, distributed essential relief items to the victims. The items, which included bags of rice, cooking oil, and mattresses, were presented to the hardest-hit families to help them cope with their immediate needs.

The MCE reiterated the call for residents in low-lying areas to relocate to higher grounds as the rains are expected to continue. She also acknowledged the support of the Samartex Group of Companies, commending their corporate social responsibility and their willingness to partner with the Assembly to assist the community.

“This is a moment for unity,” the MCE stated. “We are grateful to our local industries like Samartex for heeding our call. It is through such collaborations that we can build a resilient and caring community.”

The team is expected to hold an emergency meeting later  to strategize on medium to long-term mitigation measures.

The Municipal Assembly assures the general public, especially the people of Samreboi and other communities along the main river bodies, that it is working tirelessly to ensure that all affected persons receive the necessary assistance. Further assessments will be conducted as the situation unfolds.
