WASSA AMENFI WEST MUNICIPAL ASEMBLY’S MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY

Due to the surrounding issues around menstrual hygiene and its normalization, the Wassa Amenfi West municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Gender Desk Officer commemorated this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day which started with a radio talk on how to create awareness on menstrual Hygiene Management on the 27th May, 2025 and 28th May, before the main program at Wassa –Dunkwa Catholic Church. Under the theme “MAKING MENSTRUATION A NORMAL FACT OF LIFE BY 2030” The occasion drew distinguished guest including Mrs. Elizabeth Emefa Fiagome the Amenfi West Education Director and other notable officers from GES.

The event was organized by Naomi krakue, Gender Desk Officer for Wassa Amenfi West, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, the Municipal Health Directorate, Social Welfare, CHRAJ, Electoral Commission, National Youth Authority, Cocoa Board, and Municipal Information Service, aimed to create awareness and initiate positive change regarding Menstrual Health.

The program was held in two communities, namely Asankrangwa and Wassa Dunkwa. There was poetry recital by Wassa Dunkwa M/A after which there was a drama by Wassa Dunkwa Anglican school, Wassa Dunkwa Methodist and Amoaman M/A.

The Municipal Education Director, Mrs. Elizabeth Emefa Fiagome in her speech, encouraged every girl to accept menstruation with good faith as it is part of females and not a disease, advised them to maintain personal hygiene during period. She added that, men should help women whiles they are menstruating. She ended with a quote “Is not a sin for a girl child to menstruate but rather hormonal changes in the system and its part of God’s nature”.

The resource person who is also a nurse demonstrated how to use Pad and other traditional ways to use cloth during menstruation.
