MEETING WITH PRAGEA RIDERS (WASSA AMENFI WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY)

The meeting was held on Thursday, 6th June, 2024 at exactly 11:00am at the Municipal Assembly hall. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the By-laws governing the pragea riding in the municipality, as well as the development of the new fares.

The Municipal Coordinating Director (Mr Daniel Konney), the Chief Superintendent Police of the Asankrangwa Division, the Superintendent Police of the Asankrangwa Division , Commander in charge of vehicles, The chief CID of Asankrangwa, Immigration Commander (Asankrangwa), Fire Service Commander (Asankrangwa), the Municipal Financial Officer, Officers from various department of the Municipal Assembly, as well as the owners and pragea riders were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, The Chief Superintendent Police of the Asankrangwa Division, raised certain concerns and observations which include;

  • Some of the riders not having driving license and city license
  • Some group of riders having the same number plate
  • Pragea owners giving their pragea to underage drivers
  • Unapproved parking by some of the riders and also riders dogging traffic especially on market days.
  • Indecent dressing by some of the riders (wearing of shorts and singlet, wearing of slippers whiles driving etc.)

He advised them to stop all these practices as it is not approved by Law, and made known to them that anyone who will be caught in the act will be properly dealt with in accordance with the law governing riding.

After, the Municipal Financial Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Aya, listed the By-laws by the assembly governing the riding of the pragea and explained each of it to them. He mentioned that any breach of the law will be subjected to fines and other severe punishments. He also advised them to make sure that the pragea they are riding is properly embossed by the Municipal Assembly to avoid fines and charges.

Other Dignitaries present at the meeting also talked about the bad characters of some of the riders which include; insulting passengers and charging more than what they are supposed to charge. Riders were advised to desist from such attitude.

The new fares were then revealed to the riders and were advised not to charge more than they are supposed to.

The meeting was then opened to the riders to ask any questions that is unclear to them and also raise their concerns.
